What stump grinding involves
Stump grinding is the most efficient way to eliminate a tree stump after removal — or to deal with old stumps already on your property. Our commercial-grade stump grinder uses a rotating cutting wheel to chip the stump and surface roots down 8–12 inches below grade, turning solid wood into small wood chips that can be raked back over the hole or hauled away.
Unlike stump removal by excavation — which tears up your yard and requires heavy equipment — grinding is clean, precise, and leaves the surrounding area intact. The resulting hole fills naturally over time, and once covered with topsoil and seed, there's no visible trace the stump was ever there.
We handle stumps of all sizes, from small ornamental trees to large hardwood oaks and pines. If you had a tree removed and want the stump taken care of at the same visit, we can do both. Standalone stump grinding jobs are just as welcome.
Why removing stumps matters
Safety — Stumps are a trip hazard for kids, guests, and anyone walking the yard at dusk. They're also a liability issue on commercial properties. Grinding eliminates the hazard without disrupting the rest of your landscaping.
Pest prevention — Decaying stumps attract termites, carpenter ants, and wood-boring beetles. Once a stump is infested, those insects can move toward your home or outbuildings. Grinding removes the food source before the problem starts.
Aesthetics and usability — A stump in the middle of a lawn makes mowing difficult, takes up usable space, and looks unfinished. Grinding restores a clean, flat surface you can seed, sod, or build on.
Prevents regrowth — Many tree species sprout new growth from the root system after cutting. Grinding disrupts the root crown and eliminates the energy source that fuels regrowth, so you're not dealing with the same tree again in two years.
